Physical Dynamic Systems Theory provides a framework for understanding how various systems within the body interact and influence each other through proprioception, coordina- tion, and biomechanics. When athletes specialize in a particular sport, they grad- ually lose the diversity, movement patterns, and positions they either once possessed (or didn’t build at all) and now find themselves repeatedly per- forming the same motions over and over. Coupled with a subpar training program, this can lead to an unstable foundation and potential injury. In this session, you will learn how to expose, progress, and challenge your athletes within the “buckets of movement” they are missing from their training to ultimately upgrade their movement, coordination, strength, and on-court efficiency to improve performance and mitigate injury risk. The concept of “constraints” in human movement and performance can take on several different meanings. Some of these can be limitations which need to be addressed and overcome for the client to make prog- ress, while others are the judicious use of physical constraints to help improve movement capacity. There can be societal, psychological, and physical constraints influencing rehab and training programming, as well as session design and flow which may be limiting progress and out- comes. This lecture will discuss in depth some of these concepts and provide specific examples of ways to help recognize, address, and im- plement strategies to help overcome these obstacles.
