As a result, the focus on methods dominates with the overarching idea seeming to be that if we can ensure we are using the best evidence-based approaches then we are bound to be successful. But is this enough and is this approach actually counterproductive when dealing with the complex world of human behaviour and performance? Could it be that in our drive toward finding the magic ingredient we have actually lost touch with how the world really works and what actually matters? This presentation will question our cur- rent perspectives, suggest alternative approaches and provide frame- works around which we can design our own path to success. (Lecture Only) Building Tomorrow’s Athletes – Real-World Application of Long-Term Athletic Development Athleticism, it is the elusive quality that lies at the heart of success in most sports, and long-term athlete development (LTAD) is typically the answer given as to how to build this. Yet the actual impact of LTAD is sketchy, and the translation of theory into practice remains a challenge. As with all training problems, the answer lies in the ability to apply con- cepts into practice. This requires consistent action, and athletic develop- ment sessions lie at the heart of this action. This session will outline how to structure athletic development sessions that address a range of the factors that dictate the success of any athletic development program and which can be applied in a wide range of contexts. JUSTIN KEGLEY CSCS, CFSC • Performance Coach, Speaker and Author • Founder and Co-Owner of Movement Fitness, a Personal Training and Sports Performance Facility in Rockford, IL
• Spent the last decade focusing on Coaching Female Athletes to Maximize Performance, Reducing ACL Injuries and Building Unshakeable Confidence Preparing the Complete Female Athlete Training the complete female athlete is more than just periodization and progressions. Our goal should be to build resilient athletes who are strong physically and mentally. To reduce the risk of injury and play to the highest capability, we must develop speed, power, strength and condi- tioning. We also need to develop the female athlete as a whole and help them understand how their habits affect performance on the field or court. The environment and expectations we create as coaches is critical. Even though female athletes’ participation in sports has substantially in- creased over the last 50 years, there is still a gap in training for these ath- letes. We must not only train female athletes well, but create an environ- ment that is welcoming to their friends and teammates. In this presenta- tion, Justin will talk through the 5 factors critical to developing an un- shakeable confidence in the complete female athlete.
